Energy storage has been an integral component of electricity generation, transmission, distribution as well as consumption for well over many decades. Today, the power landscape is changing dramatically with the growing renewable energy generation. With decentralized renewable energy sources in our power grid, the demand for energy storage systems to stabilize fluctuations is quickly growing. This shift to renewable sources also makes delivering power reliably, where and when it’s needed, a bigger challenge than ever before.

The area of application of ESS covers a very broad range of requirements and performance. This includes energy storage for short-term consumption for the stabilization of wind power and PV solar systems with network malfunctions, the balancing of short-term generation deficits and the storage of large amounts of energy. The latter is required for the stabilization of a supply network as soon as variable power generators such as wind and solar are integrated.
